Eating
All of the local pubs and the larger hotels serve food but in addition there is also a large number of restaurants.
Sam's is the best bistro in Fowey; cool music, even cooler staff and the foods pretty good too! No booking or credit cards. Go with the flow and you'll never enjoy a wait for a table so much.
Taipan, a superb Asian restaurant. Excellent food, well presented. Offers a take away service, order by phone, take the passenger ferry over, collect your food, grab a quick beer and the ferry should be back for the return trip.
Maxwells, mainly a fish restaurant. Run by the ex-chef at the Marina Hotel. Maxwell is relaxed, not cheap but offers good value for the quality of food. For only a few weeks a year they serve the largest prawns in the world!! One evening a week serves a mean curry.
The Toll Bar Cafe, views of the Estuary and Polruan. Babies and dogs welcome. Great selection of homemade cakes. Come here for breakfast, dinner and tea if you like.
Zutshi's, part of the Toll Bar Cafe selling a good range of international food. Competes with Maxwells with a once a week curry evening, look for the Kashmiri special.
Crumpets in Polruan for tea and home made cakes if your feeling too lazy to do it yourself. Your only 25 steps from the Lookout! Keep an eye open for the special evenings they are normally mid-week and get booked up very quickly.
Sam's Other Place. Fish & chip shop downstairs, modern fish restaurant with river views upstairs.
Food for Thought, right on Fowey's Town quay receives rave reviews.
Chuffer's by the old railway station. Serves a wide range of food, some theme evenings.
The Globe Posting House. Bistro menu with an itialian theme, cosy tables and roaring fire in winter.
The Fowey Gallants Sailing Club has also been known to offer a mean curry selection!
The Old Quay House Hotel, now this is possibly the best restaurant in Fowey with a great selection of food with a fantastic terrace hanging out over the estuary. As expected whe nit reopened after a major refurbish prices soared, great for a special event.
Pinky Murphy's is a modern cafe selling superb coffee, hot chocolate and cakes. Also mediterranean style snacks at lunchtime,

Polruan
Both of the pubs in Polruan, The Russell Inn and The Lugger Inn are less than twenty steps from the Lookout and are the best "real" pubs in either Fowey or Polruan. Both are owned by St.Austell ales so expect the the usual Hicks and Tinners on draught. Dogs and kids welcome.
Good food in both with the Russell doing more fish and the Lugger having a seperate restaurant, the Sail Loft.
Fowey
The pubs in Fowey seem to change hands every season and are generally ok but not exceptional. The exceptions being:
The Ship Inn, no kids in the bar, but welcome in the separate restaurant. Food good especially the mussels.
The Lugger Inn, interesting pub with a large mural of the view of Fowey from Polruan. Now serves a good selection of food including mussels, sardines and a fish soup that people are travelling miles to eat.
Others are King of Prussia & Galleon Inn right on the quay and The Safe Harbour at the top of Fowey.
Boddinnick
The Old Ferry Inn, is a great pub with a seperate restaurant and a terrace with our favourite view down the estuary, over Fowey and Polruan and out to sea. Free House so makes a change from the usual St.Austell ales expect Bass and Sharp's ales. Dogs and kids welcome.
