Following several comments and an overly generous offer the West Street side of The Lookout changed colour in 2002.

The pictures show the transformation from the peebledash, dating from 1958, to Sandtex Cornish Cream. We are reliably informed that the pebbles were from a local cove; many were lumps of quartzite rather than mere pebbles.

Thanks to those involved in the painting and the many "helpful" comments from passers-by which included;

"that's a lifetime's job"

"we put pebbledash on so you didn't have to paint it"

"looks like rain"

"you're meant to put the paint on the wall you know"

"still here then"

The general consensus is the colour change is a great improvement. Many other cottages have also now undergone a repaint and the whole street looks brighter.

You certainly can't miss the house now!

The Lookout, 7 West Street

The house is in the centre of Polruan. It's history can be relaibly traced back to 1771 but it was surely in existence long before.

The house was given by the landlady of the Lugger Inn in the mid ninteenth century to her daughter and before becoming a family home was a haberdashery.

This picture is taken from Polruan quay. The house entrance is on West street which is at the same level as the window directly above the pitched roof.

The two new windows awaiting painting.
