The Tugs

The two tugs are an ever present feature of the Fowey estuary and during the summer they are anchoured in the Polruan Pool in full view of the Lookout.

They are used to escort the large tankers into & out of the harbour.

In 2001 nearly 550 ships visited the harbour including a number of ocean going liners and Navy ships.
The dredger Lantic Bay has been retired but the tugs will continue to work in the estuary.

Update March 2003

It seems that the Tugs are no longer to be anchored in Polruan pool. They have been moved to Mixtow where access for the crews will be safer.

If this is true their presence will be greatly missed by young and old.
